Cantabria is part of the network of the most beautiful villages of Spain, villages whose history and great beauty make these places a «must» to visit during your vacation.
Bárcena Mayor, Liérganes and Santillana del Mar were the first villages to join this select group to which later Mogrovejo, Carmona and Potes were added.

Will you join us to know the reasons why these villages are the most beautiful in Cantabria?

Potes

Its privileged geographical location, in the heart of the Liébana region, surrounded by mountains, makes this place one of the most beautiful villages in Cantabria. Potes is a meeting point for rivers such as the Deva and Quiviesa, which is why it is also known as the town of bridges, but without doubt the most representative feature of this place are its towers. The towers of Orejón de la Lama and Infantado, which date from the 15th century, are just some of the examples of the historical legacy of this place, which was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1983.

Carmona

The old urban layout of Carmona is one of the main features that makes this little town one of the most beautiful in Cantabria, where we find its typical houses or emblematic buildings such as the Palace of the Díaz Cossío y Mier or its church dating from the eighteenth century.

Liérganes

Declared of National Historic-Artistic Interest, this village is characterized by preserving its classicist architecture of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, times when its artillery factory became the great economic engine of the region.
The history of this place is not only linked to its old part in which we find popular mansions or its palace-museum of Elsedo, but also to its legend of the Man-Fish in which fiction and reality come together in this well-known legend that every Cantabrian knows.

Barcena Mayor

Located in the Saja Besaya Natural Park, this quaint village is characterized by its traditional architecture in which we find the typical mountain houses, distinguished by their balconies and for having a place to dry their cereal.

Mogrovejo

Surrounded by mountains you will find the small village of Mogrovejo, which is also part of the most beautiful villages of Cantabria that you should visit.
This place besides preserving its typical architecture of the area of Liébana, the region where it is located, is also known for being a movie village since in 2016 it became the ideal setting to host the filming of the children’s film Heidi thanks to its similarity to the Swiss village where the main caracter lived with her grandfather.

Santillana del Mar

This medieval village with buildings from the XIV and XVIII centuries is one of the most charming villages in our region. Known as the town of the three lies (it is neither holy, nor flat, nor is it at the sea) has two main cobbled streets and full of mansions with large coats of arms or palaces and completed with a real jewel of Romanesque, the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana.
Do you dare to know the reasons why these towns are the most beautiful and authentic of our region.
